One Child Only Policy
A project exploring the one child only policy and its relaxation under the Jan.14 directive, which was intended to address the rapidly ageing and increasingly male population.
The project began by illustrating the key people involved in the evolution of the one child only policy. I went on to explore the imagery of propaganda which was used over a period of 35 years to convince people one child would make for a happier life. I used a process of collage to develop the drawings.
I designed what I called “Propazines” to give an insight into the one child turned two child policy. My propaganda illustrations take the form of a book which can be unfolded to reveal a poster within.
